About Emily Varga

Emily is a Masters-trained psychologist with over 17 years of experiece working with children, adolescents, young adults and families from diverse backgrounds.

She values working collaboratively with young people and parents, recognising the strength each person brings. Emily is committed to creating a safe and respectful space where individuals feel understood and supported.

 

Together, you will work toward feeling more empowered to be yourself, strengthen friendships and family relationships, manage your mental health, and engage more conifidently in valued areas of life, including education and everyday activities.

We work with children, adolescents, young adults and parents across a range of emotional, behavioural and developmental concerns. Support is tailored, evidence-biased, and responsive to each individual’s needs.

Support for Children

We support children to better understand their emotions, build coping skills, and feel more confident navigating everyday challenges. Parents are actively involved, with a focus on strengthening relationships and emotional saftey.

Support for Adolescents 

Adolescence can be complex. We offer confidential, supportive space where young people can explore their experiences, develop emotional insight and build skills for managing stress, relationships and change.

Support for Young Adults

Young adulthood brings increased responsibility, identity development and pressure. We work collaboratively to support emotional regulation, self-understanding and sustainable coping strategies.

Parenting Support

Parenting is challenging – especially with a child or teenager is struggling. We offer guidance, education, and practical strategies to help parents feel more confident and supported.

Focused Consultation

A structured, one-off session for young people aged 16-24 years, or for parents seeking clarity around a specific concern.

 

Designed to provide focused support, practical recommendations and clear next steps – without the expectation of ongoing therapy.

 

Optional follow-up available after four weeks to review progress and refine the plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in the first session?

During the first session, we take the time to gently understand you unique situation, what has led you to. Seek support, and what you hope might feel different. Together, we begin to clarify goals and consider what the next steps might look like – at a pace that feels safe and manageable.

How long are sessions?

Session length varies depending on the age of the young person and the nature of the work

For children aged 15 and under, the first appointment is usually a 90-minute parent consultation. This allows time to understand your child’s history, current concerns, and the broader family context before therapy begins.

For adolescents aged 16 and over, sessions are typically 60-minutes. The first appointment may include a brief introduction with a parent or caregiver, followed by individual time with the young person. A 90-minute initial session can also be arranged where helpful.

For young adults, sessions are 60 minutes and are attended independently.

The length and frequency of appointments are discussed collaboratively and tailored to individual needs.

Can therapy support my child or teenager?

Yes. Therapy can be very helpful for children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioural, social or developmental challenges. Sessions are adapted to each young person’s age and needs, supporting them to express themselves, build emotional understanding and develop practical coping skills in a way that feels safe and respectful.

What does tharapy look like at different ages?

Adolescents therapy is primarily conversational, with space for young people to explore heir Houghton. Feeling and experiences in a confidential and nn-judgemental environment, Creative or reflective approaches – such as journaling, art or mindfulness – may also be included where helpful.

 

For younger children, session may incorporate play-based or interactive strategies to support emotional expression and skills development. In both cases the approach is tailored to the individual.

How are parents involved?

Parental involvement is an important part of supporting positive change. For younger children, this often include regular parent check-ins and practical approaches to support progress at home.

 

For adolescents, therapy remains confidential to help create a safe and trusting space. Parents are involved where appropriate and with the young peorson’s consent. .Family sessions may be included where helpful, and parents are always welcome too discuss how best to support their child.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy varies depending on each child or teen’s needs and goals. Some benefit from short-term support, while others may require longer-term care. Progress is reviewed regularly, and therapy continues only while it remains helpful.
